Highgate Wins 2015 LTA Middlesex Club of the Year Award
At a star-studded ceremony at the All-England Club on Saturday 7th November, Highgate Tennis, part of Highgate Cricket & Lawn Tennis Club was presented with the coveted LTA Award for Middlesex Club of the Year Award 2015.
Highgate Tennis Chair Miki Lentin commented: “Highgate is delighted to receive this award which is great recognition of the tremendous work all our volunteers do for tennis locally. Over the past year Highgate has grown its work with the local community, increased access to tennis for people with disabilities and learning difficulties, engaged with local schools at junior levels and updated our coaching programmes so that we now offer a full-range of coaching for players at all levels.
We are delighted to now be recognised as the LTA’s club of the year in Middlesex and hope to grow our programme and extend our work within the local community over the next 12 months. Thanks to all our members and supporters for helping make this happen.”
LTA President Cathie Sabin said: “If it wasn’t for the selfless efforts of the people who run the clubs, tennis centres and parks we simply would not be able to offer tennis to everyone who would like to play. I have long believed that everyone who helps to deliver, develop and promote British Tennis should be thanked, acknowledged and rewarded for everything they do on our behalf.”
Highgate Tennis, part of Highgate C<C is a volunteer-run, community club with 12 courts that is one of the friendliest, most inclusive and active in north London. Our aim is to be the first-choice tennis club in the area for everyone, whatever their age, background or playing aspirations, from social player to future national representative.
Some of our achievements this year have been the re-surfacing of our courts, free tennis for schools kids at local summer fetes and involvement in the Great British Tennis Weekend, building facilities and introducing a programme for wheelchair tennis players and providing Sound Ball tennis for visually impaired and blind players.
Highgate is one of the most active clubs in the area with an extensive coaching programme. We now have nine different coaching sessions for adults every week from beginners to advanced levels. This has led to greater participation in our teams, with six men’s and six women’s summer teams in 2015.
Highgate has also been nominated for Haringey’s Celebrating Sports ‘Club of the Year’ Award which will be announced on 18th November.
