Winston Edwards Tournament 2015
We had a fine turnout for this year’s Winston Edwards Tournament on Sunday. Twenty people turned out on a windy yet gorgeous afternoon for tennis, tea, cake and a chance to remember Winston, a long-standing member of the club who died a few years ago.
After four rounds of seven games the highest scoring players of the day decided to eschew the final in favour of tea and cake in the sun – how chilled is that! Prizes were then simply given to Trish, the winner of the Winston Group and to Jim, Winner of the Edwards Group, congratulations to both of them.
Richard and Michelle said a few words about Winston, remembering him for being a a lovely, generous partner, a great dancer, fine volleyer and a funny guy with a great smile and a good ear for goss. Noeleen chipped in that Winston always played with lower-standard players, much to the offence of Rachel and Richard, his former partners! All In all, it was a very lovely afternoon and we raised around £100 towards the Winston Edwards Junior Development Fund.
Thanks to everyone who joined in and a special mention for Nicky who made sure the afternoon ran more than smoothly.
