Celebrating Brookside and Susan and Carol
On a sunny evening last Saturday, we held our inaugural event on our wonderful new Brookside courts and took the opportunity to say thanks to Susan Paterson and Carol Lee who, between them, have notched up fifty years’ service to the club.
The One Point Slam attracted a host of older and (much) younger players; played over four rounds, some players fell at the first hurdle (i.e. a double fault) while others battled long and hard for the single point. Hats off to Lucas Morton, Lily Dear and eight-year old, Enzo Lo Bianco, for taking part with such enthusiasm and playing really well.
In the end, Rob Morton triumphed over Jyoji Morimoto in a hard-fought Grand Finale.
Huge thanks to Kevin Balon for his seamless organisation of what seemed like an incredibly complicated format at the time but went off without a hitch.
We then moved on to the celebrations for Susan and Carol. John Newton paid a fulsome tribute to Carol and her forty years of service. Andy Newton then talked about the Brookside project and the key role Susan has played in hugely complex negotiations, particularly around the fourth court, and seeing it through to its successful delivery. Wine flowed into the night, accompanied by Chris Howe, Gerry Mulcahy and John Trampleasure. Thanks to everyone who came.
