Charity Tournament round-up

The club’s second Charity Tournament was held on Sunday 25 February. Slightly disappointingly we only had eight entrants, but what we lacked in quantity we made up for in quality. Many made generous donations over and above the required £10.

The field was pared down to four for an exciting final between Ewa and Richard and Paul Coldwell and Sarah Burke, with Ewa and Richard triumphing on a tie break. Richard happily received his prize, a bottle of Cava he had purchased from Waitrose that morning, from Carol, who had kindly and very effectively collected all the money. Ewa, surprisingly in view of her experience of winning club tournaments, forgot that there was a prize and left without being presented with hers- the chances of it surviving undrunk for long back in Richard’s possession are pretty slim, so she had better get it quickly if she wants it.

Elena, who felt, perhaps with some justification, that she was deprived of a finals place by some last minute pair switching, and refused to share her chicken sandwich with the organiser in protest, newish member Kevin, Julia and Rachel Allison all put in creditable performances while falling just short of the glory of the final.

Thanks to everybody who did enter, donate and help and I hope we do it again next year.

We raised £110 for Street Child.
