HPT travel to Base Tennis in Germany
Last week saw a group of HPT juniors travel over to Base Tennis in Germany to experience training on clay.
The juniors played 4 hours tennis a day and gave them great exposure to the demands required for playing effective tennis on ‘the dirt’. The juniors learnt the need to be patient in the rally while still being disciplined with the depth of your rally ball and also the necessity to control the middle of the court with your forehand.
On the Wednesday, a friendly was organised against a Federation team, a regional training squad. Our players got valuable match experience on the clay and performed admirably with Base tennis coming out on top!!!
There was also time for a now infamous football match where the Brits took on the night of the Germans. Despite only fielding three adults and having two nine year olds, HPT defeated Base 4-1 on penalties after the match ended 5-5 at full time. Maybe it’s a sign of what’s to come in Brazil?!!
Special thanks needs to be made to Rodney Rapson and his team at BASE Tennis who allow us to train at the centre and make it affordable for HPT kids. The trip is a great cultural experience for the juniors too as they get to stay with host families and learn a little German along the way.
Also, thanks to the Howard Fund for the ongoing financial support that means trips like this can happen.
