Tuesday Night Winter League Finals

A fantastic Tuesday Winter League Finals Night was had by all last night.

The tension built throughout the evening as one of the major prizes went right down to the wire.  Right down to the last match and even the last game of the evening. Firstly, congratulations to Antonio who won the Winter League Cup for the second year in a row!  This is a fantastic achievement.  There were a couple of comments regarding his unwillingness to play on the final night to protect his lead, however, there is no need to dwell on those.

However,  the evening’s awards ceremony was dominated by Kirsty.  She waltzed up and down the red carpet to collect award after award.  Her runner up award was the most excitingly contested event.  Phil needed to win his last set to take the award from Kirsty.  This was the final match on court and it went to a tie break which Phil & Sasha eventually lost to MarkR & RobH.  This meant that Kirsty took the award with a final points tally of 96.58 to Phil’s 96.56!  She also therefore became only the second woman (after Sarah Free) to get the runners-up trophy.

A massive thanks to Jessica who spent all week baking the inaugural Winter League Player of the Year awards.  These were the most sought after prizes of the evening.  The top award was, again, won by Kirsty, so next time you are at the Club and you see Kirsty on court, take note of the integrity, courtesy, rapport, demeanour and geniality that  she displays and perhaps aspire to match at least some of these qualities.

Thanks to Nicky for running the evenings in my absence and to Chanya & Amy for their support (and to RobH who stepped in during times of need).   Also, a big thanks from me for your appreciation of my performance in running this year’s tournament.  It was very kind of you.

Here is a full listing of the evenings awards, but also feel free to jump down to the bottom of this e-mail where the season’s keenly awaited statistics are provided.
